Wanted by Him by Anastasya Laverdiere

Healthy identity affects every area of our lives and relationships. When brokenness meets brokenness it can never produce wholeness. Identity, though, in some ways has become a catch word or topic in Christian circles and just like many facets of our faith it can be something we know more in theory than experience in reality. Identity encompasses not only what we believe about ourselves but what we believe about how God our Father sees us.

Without a well-developed sense of who we are, and whose we are, we are left open to the illusive promises that relationships, with even the best people, cannot deliver on. One of which is the idea of being made complete by another. Contrary to what the movie Jerry Maguire may have claimed, no human being can ever truly complete another. There is only One who can complete us;

“in Him you have been made complete…” Col.2:10 (NASB)

It is that sense of completion, worthiness and biblical right-ness before God which Servant Sons and Daughters seeks to provide a basis for.

Additionally, another illusive desire can claim to be fulfilled by relationships – the feeling of being wanted.

Being wanted or desired by someone or a particular crowd can equate heavily to our own feeling of personal worth and value.  Perhaps the single most important aspect of a healthy identity can be summed up in the phrase, “the Father’s smile”. We are all seeking for acceptance and approval one way or another. Many Christians fail to experience the power and freedom of full acceptance from God as a Father. Consequently, they remain without the security this acceptance provides which is the ability to withstand the tough competitive nature of the world around us. The Father’s smile is God’s approval and delight in us. When this radiates in our hearts we have a worth and value which transcends the natural ebb and flow of human desire and acceptance.

He speaks to us gently from within with constant and consistent affirmation.  It consummates in the understanding that we are not just accepted by Him because of Christ’s death on the cross but that we have always been wanted by Him.

We were wanted as His precious daughters before we ever even knew Him.

Servant Sons and Daughters, explores this superlative reality of a Father who has always been after His children. It attempts to lay hold of a revelation of radical grace and love so effectual that even a drop of it can cause a profound ripple effect in our hearts propelling us toward freedom.

In Ephesians 3, Paul talks about love and specifically how an ever increasing revelation of God’s love is the foundation to living in all the fullness of what God has for us. (Ephesians 3:14-19)

Building a strong foundation in the love of our Father is essential for us. No human can love us perfectly, nor can we love others perfectly. We need to be “rooted and established” in the Love that can.

Daughters, He longs to be known by you; to give you His love and to be loved by you.  You have His heart, even though for a season you may not have the heart of another. You are loved, wanted and enjoyed…already. Knowing this takes the pressure off of others to try to provide these things for us. Our hearts desire is to be accepted, wanted and completed which can only be found in Him.

There is nothing like the love of God our Father – it’s a romance not even the best chick flick can capture. I pray over you the same blessing Paul released over his readers,

that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.” Eph.3:17-19 ESV
