It’s all about Heart

Listen! A farmer went out to plant some seeds. As he scattered them across his field…still other seeds fell on fertile soil, and they produced a crop that as thirty, sixty, and even a hundred times as much as had been planted!…(these represent)…those who truly hear and understand God’s word and produce a harvest of thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times as much as had been planted!” Matthew 13:3, 7, 22 NLT

There is a reason your Father tells you to “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.” Proverbs 4:23 NLT

He tells us because He knows that, by nature, we won’t.

As girls, He knows that we’ll give it to lesser deserving because we’re lonely.
He knows we’ll share it with complete vulnerability, opening ourselves to a pain we were never meant to know.
He knows we’ll wear it on our sleeve, because we forgot how valuable we were.
He knows we’ll throw it on the ground, wanting to have nothing to do with the memories it carries of abuse.
He knows we’ll leave it out in the cold and shut it down, to satisfy the advances of the one that says “I love you.”
He knows we’ll trade it for stability.
He knows we’ll tell it to be quiet when it beats for purity, honesty and hope. Because in these we see no future.
He knows we’ll wrap it in the labels we put on ourselves, to hide the shame of our nakedness.
He knows.

He knows the course of our life when we give in to vices in the name of love.
He knows the course of our emotions when we rest them on the waves of fantasy.
He knows the course of our pain if we force it into a corner to hide.
He knows the course of our heart if we give it fully to anyone but Him.

Your heart determines the course of your life, much like the soil determined the success of the seed.

It’s the same seed that fell on the footpath that dried up and died.
It’s the same seed that fell among the rocky soil that had no roots so withered.
It’s the same seed that got choked out by the weeds.
But this seed PRODUCED because it went into fertile soil!

Which means the greatest potential of your life lies within a heart rooted in devotion to Jesus Christ.

Let’s recap that verse we’ve been referring to, but let’s keep reading:

In the same way you received Jesus our Lord and Messiah by faith, continue your journey of faith, progressing further into your union with him! Your spiritual roots go deeply into his life as you are continually infused with strength, encouraged in every way. For you are established in the faith you have absorbed and enriched by your devotion to him.” Colossians 2:6-7 PASSION

It is by devotion to Christ that your entire life is enriched! Another way to put it… “Your real life is hidden with Christ in God.” Colossians 3:3 NLT

And don’t worry, you can’t get so hidden in Christ that the guy that’s supposed to find you won’t be able to. God is a better Father than to let you go unnoticed by the one that’s supposed to notice you. Just saying.

Any relationship can result in marriage, but it doesn’t mean it measures up to Purpose. If you meet, date and even marry a guy before you ever get hidden in Christ, He won’t be your true fit or you won’t be his. It’s not until you’re hidden that you become who you really are.

Let your life be rooted in devotion to Him, knowing Him and hearing His voice. A life fulfilled is grown from purpose. And this is it, “to know the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth.” John 17:3

This is how you guard your heart. This is how you determine the course of your life. Allow your life to be rooted in His.

Not rooted in getting married.
Not rooted in dating guy to guy to guy.
Not rooted in success, fame or status.
Not rooted in comfort or pleasure.
Not rooted in anything that begins or ends in this life.

By allowing your life to be rooted in His, you become who you really are, knowing fully who He really is, and will live out the life you were born for.

Abba,
Take back the course of my life that I have lost to any other lovers. Bring back the pieces of my heart until I am whole again. Cut any ties to things I should have never been entangled with. I choose to hide my heart, my life, my all in your love. Let my roots go deep into you, let my life be built upon you. I trust you to bring about every promise. I rest in your purpose for my life.
Your Daughter,

In this with you girl,
Shelley
